Les Misérables, 1958

Again, the French stick to the original story in this long adaptation - perhaps the most accurate version out there. Great effort were paid to get the right atmosphere and Gabin is excellent as Valjean.
 
This adaptation - released in 1957 according to some sources - is available in VHS.
